# Volume routing

This guide explains how to use **Volume Routing** to split payments between your gateways by volume: all traffic goes to a single credential until it reaches a USD target, and then moves on to the next one.

> **Note:** **Volume-Based (sequential)** mode is in **BETA**.

***

## How it works

Hurry has two routing modes:

| Mode | How it splits payments |
| :- | :- |
| **Percentage (default)** | Each credential receives the share set by its **Traffic %**. This is the recommended mode for normal use. |
| **Volume-Based (sequential)** | 100% of traffic goes to a single credential until it reaches its USD target. Then it moves on to the next one. |

In volume mode you define a **sequence of rules**. Each rule is a credential with a USD target. A **cursor** marks the active rule: when that rule reaches its target, the cursor moves to the next one. When the last one is completed, it goes back to the first and starts a new cycle.

**Example:** with two 500 USD rules (Stripe and Whop), the first 500 USD are charged through Stripe, the next 500 through Whop, and then it goes back to Stripe.

## Before you start

You need the gateways you want to split volume between connected in **Payment providers**. They must be active to receive payments.

***

## Step 1. Open Volume Routing

In the side menu, under **Payments**, open **Volume Routing**.

![Volume Routing page with its three blocks](https://mintcdn.com/hurrypay/oD0Dix8PDKM-6CqL/images/volume-routing-01-overview.jpg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=oD0Dix8PDKM-6CqL\&q=85\&s=2eef8265786e0cf2491ca872ccb17411)

The page has three blocks: **Routing mode**, **Current state** and **Rules sequence**.

***

## Step 2. Choose the routing mode

In **Routing mode**, select **Volume-Based (sequential)**.

![Routing mode block with Volume-Based (sequential) selected](https://mintcdn.com/hurrypay/oD0Dix8PDKM-6CqL/images/volume-routing-02-routing-mode.jpg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=oD0Dix8PDKM-6CqL\&q=85\&s=823c0299ef3df2a7a1875371c1047a80)

> **Note:** Switching modes doesn't delete any settings. You can go back to **Percentage (default)** whenever you want and your rules are kept.

***

## Step 3. Create the rules sequence

In **Rules sequence**, click **Add rule**. A new row appears along with the **Unsaved changes** notice.

![New rule added with the Unsaved changes notice](https://mintcdn.com/hurrypay/oD0Dix8PDKM-6CqL/images/volume-routing-03-add-rule.jpg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=oD0Dix8PDKM-6CqL\&q=85\&s=91f0ae73d0d00db1ea53a787166ca084)

Fill in each rule:

| Field | What to enter |
| :- | :- |
| **Credential** | The gateway that receives all traffic while the rule is active. Its type is shown below it (for example `STRIPE` or `WHOP`). |
| **Target volume (USD)** | Volume in USD the credential must process before moving to the next rule. |
| **Active** | **On** to include the rule in the sequence. With **Off** the rule is disabled without having to delete it. |

Rules run from top to bottom. To change the order, drag the handle on the left or use the arrows. To delete a rule, use the trash icon.

> **Note:** If a rule shows the **INACTIVE** label, its credential is disabled in **Payment providers**. Activate it there so it can receive payments.

***

## Step 4. Save

Click **Save rules**. Changes aren't applied until you save.

The rule currently receiving payments is marked **ACTIVE NOW** with a progress bar.

## Step 5. Track the status

The **Current state** block shows where you are in the sequence:

| Field | What it shows |
| :- | :- |
| **Position** | Number of the rule the cursor is on. |
| **Pinned credential** | Credential currently receiving all payments. |
| **Progress** | Accumulated volume versus the active rule's target. |
| **Completed cycles** | Number of times the whole sequence has been completed. |

If you want to start again from the first rule, click **Reset cursor**.

***

## Step 6. Advanced options (optional)

In **Routing mode**, click **Advanced options** to expand them.

![Volume Routing advanced options expanded](https://mintcdn.com/hurrypay/oD0Dix8PDKM-6CqL/images/volume-routing-06-advanced-options.jpg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=oD0Dix8PDKM-6CqL\&q=85\&s=d20375fe4aa8c2bbba9e3080c698a609)

| Option | What it's for |
| :- | :- |
| **Reset cycle daily at 00:00** | Every day at midnight the cursor goes back to the first rule, so rotation works in 24-hour cycles. When disabled, the cursor only moves forward when the USD targets are met. |
| **Max consecutive failed sales per gateway** | If the active gateway declines this number of sales in a row, the cursor skips to the next rule without waiting for the USD target. A successful payment resets the counter to zero. `0` = disabled. |

> **Note:** 00:00 refers to the platform's time zone (**Europe/Madrid**).

***

## Done!

Your volume routing is now set up. Hurry will send payments to each credential until its USD target and rotate through the sequence.
